Adventure Challenge (ACE)
Youth Services Agency of Bucks County, Inc.
Indoor and outdoor challenging activities for youth, including climbing walls, ropes courses, and other related activities; locations vary, and include The Barn at Neshaminy Manor Center and Nockamixon State Park; stressful challenge activities in a social setting to produce positive feelings, social bonding, and self-esteem.
Bucks County Children & Youth Services
Protective services for children and youth ages 0 to 18; social services to assist families and children where abuse/neglect may be present; referrals from schools, agencies, police, professionals, concerned citizens, neighbors.
Bucks County Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities
Continuum of Conflict: Anger Management, Conflict Resolution, and Peer Mediation; each of these three programs is for teachers who want their students to have better ways of handling everyday conflicts other than physical fighting, name-calling, complaining to the teacher, or simply withdrawing; students become aware of their choices in conflict situations and learn how to approach the conflict in their lives with greater confidence and independence.
* Anger Management: K through 12th student training is ten one hour sessions with enhanced training and support as needed; faculty training is ½ day with ongoing support as needed.
* Conflict Resolution: K through 12th student training is ten one hour sessions with enhanced training and support as needed; faculty training is one day with ongoing support.
* Peer Mediation: 6th through 12th student training is two days with ongoing support and enhanced training; faculty training is two days with ongoing support.
Bucks County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc.
* Conflict Resolution & Reclaiming the Classroom: for school personnel to learn techniques and strategies to prevent and manage conflict and implement problem solving socialization skills.
$275 or $325 per person for 3-day or 4-day training, respectively.
* Conflict Resolution/Peer Mediation: two hour program provides an overview of conflict/peer mediation for parents of elementary school children.
$150 for up to 50 participants (includes materials)
* Peer Helper/Conflict Manager Training: experiential three-day training of trainers to provide school personnel with skills to train students for a peer helper program; cost same as first program listed.
* Working It Out: Tools for Everyday Peacemakers: ten session program for children to learn the skills for working well with others and settling their differences using a conflict management program.
Catholic Social Services
Counseling and case management services for all county residents. Family services; crisis pregnancy; services to elderly; individual, family, and marriage counseling; home visits are available as needed. Counseling billed to insurance or on a sliding scale; case management services are free.
Children's Advocacy Center of Bucks County
Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA)
Multi-disciplinary approach in the treatment and investigation of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse cases; includes law enforcement, district attorney's office, medical personnel, mental health professionals, and the Children & Youth Social Services Agency. Children (under the age of 18) come to the center for abuse interviews with the goal of reducing the number of interviews a child must go through and thereby reduce the trauma for the child; the center provides a coordinated investigation and treatment plan. Contact the program director for information and to set up an appointment; referrals can come from parents or from professionals.
Family Service Association of Bucks County
Outpatient counseling programs utilize masters level clinicians to serve adults, senior adults, adolescents, and children seeking professional assistance with a wide range of presenting concerns: substance abuse, stress/anger management, anxiety, depression, grief/loss; parent/child conflict, step-parenting, school/academic problems, adolescent adjustment/rebellion; marital/couple conflict, separation/divorce/blended family issues, domestic violence; the aging process; caregiver issues. Sliding fee scale; grant-funded services at no cost to income eligible individuals/families; third party payers; Medicare; Medical Assistance.
Living in Family Environments (L.I.F.E.)
Program supports parents of children/adolescents who are experiencing mental health and/or behavioral issues and who are multi-system involved; support, education, and advocacy provided through individual contacts as well as groups and workshops which vary in time and location; assists in continuum of care for children/adolescents unable to access appropriate mental health care. Available to all county residents.
Valley Youth House
The shelter offers help for youth that are on a runaway status or at risk for running away. Short term emergency shelter for youth ages 12-18 with up to a 15-day stay. Shelter, clothing, food and general emergency needs are provided. Intensive individual and family counseling and other case management services are available during the youth's stay. Youth may refer themselves, or can be referred by parents, teachers, police, social workers and other agencies. Transportation to school is provided when possible if not there is a school on the property. Drop-in crisis services are available if needed or an appointment can be made ahead of time to discuss services. The shelter is a safe place to reside while youth are working towards reunification with thier family. All services are free.
YMCA Family Centers
YWCA Family Centers offer educational and self-sufficiency programs that build self-esteem, strong families, and safe communities. We offer classes in Computer, ESL, Financial Literacy, Citizenship, Parenting and social services as well as referrals. Call the YWCA Program Outreach Center 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, for additional information on our Family Centers.
